Our Fertility Specialists will provide you with the highest quality of fertility care for your In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).
The San Diego Fertility Center's IVF treatments encompass the following steps:
1. Initial Consultation with your personal Infertility Specialist
Discussing your medical history and establishing your unique IVF treatment plan
2. Clinical Coordinator Consultation
Review details from MD consult and IVF treatment
3. Financial Consultation
Review financial options for your care
4. Pre-Treatment Preparation
In order to have the optimal outcome with your IVF treatment, we review additional medical information, perform pretreatment, and initiate stress reduction options. Lab work will include hormone levels, antibiotic treatment, and uterine assessment for additional documentation.
5. Start of Pills
Oral contraceptive pills will initiate 2 to 4 weeks after testing is complete. This will help prepare your ovaries to be cyst free and help in the coordination and planning of your fertility care.
6. Controlled Ovarian Hyperstimulation
A baseline pelvic ultrasound will assure our healthy starting point before initiating medication for the stimulation and assessment of egg production.
7. Monitoring Visits
Approximately 3 to 5 office visits for ultrasounds and assessment of blood hormone levels will be conducted for the accurate assessment of egg maturity.
8. HCG
A special medication will be administered 36 hours prior to the retrieval of your eggs.
9. Transvaginal Retrieval of Eggs and IVF Laboratory
A pleasant intravenous experience assures your comfort in the care of a certified anesthesiologist for the harvesting of your eggs for fertilization. At that time, your partner will be required to produce a semen specimen (either in our offices or at-home within one hour of delivery to our IVF laboratory). IVF Laboratory specialists will perform fertilization and daily reports about your embryo development.
10. IVF Laboratory Daily Reports
Your infertility team will discuss daily the status of fertilization, embryo development and embryo quality as well as the events and decisions leading up to the embryo transfer.
11. Embryo or Blastocyst Transfer
An embryo transfer is performed after a private discussion and presentation of your embryos with photographs for your records. Our Fertility Specialists will discuss the number of embryos for your optimal chance of success and the lowest likelihood of high order multiple births.
12. Pregnancy Blood Test #1
13. Pregnancy Blood Test #2
When your first pregnancy test is positive, a repeat value will be obtained 48 hours later. The reassurance of this test will be followed by an obstetrical ultrasound.
