A new model for family building
Our hybrid program allows intended parents to complete the most critical step toward success—embryo creation—at San Diego Fertility Center. Resulting embryos are securely transported to Mexico, where patients can continue their surrogacy journey with trusted, vetted partners.
This way, you get the best of both worlds: the higher success rates and transparency of our United States program, combined with the cost savings and reduced wait time of surrogacy in Mexico.
With years of experience supporting international patients and coordinating care across borders, our team brings deep expertise in the medical, logistical, and cultural nuances of global family building, ensuring a process that feels seamless and supportive from start to finish.
Why create embryos in the United States?
Embryo quality is one of the most important factors in a successful pregnancy. Our success rate for surrogate pregnancies can exceed 75%, well above the average success rates in Mexico. By creating your embryos in the United States, you significantly improve your chances from the very beginning.
For those using an egg donor, U.S.-based programs offer detailed profiles, access to photos, and the possibility of future contact (when desired). In Mexico, egg donation is typically fully anonymous, with more limited information available.
Embryo storage laws in Mexico can vary by state. By creating and storing embryos in the United States, you maintain flexibility and protect your options, no matter how regulations change.
Even with the best physician, success depends heavily on the lab. Our embryology team brings decades of experience, helping ensure the highest possible embryo quality and outcomes.

Who this program is for
U.S. Intended Parents
For many Americans, this program offers a more accessible path to parenthood. Surrogacy in Mexico is generally more cost-effective, with shorter wait times to begin your family due to greater surrogate availability.
Mexican Intended Parents
Mexican parents may travel to San Diego for embryo creation due to our higher success rates, robust donor options, and advanced lab technology. Embryos can then be safely transported back to Mexico for surrogacy.
International Intended Parents
We're global leaders in family building, with deep experience supporting intended parents across borders. This program offers access to world-class IVF care, seamless coordination across countries, and all the benefits of completing your surrogacy journey in Mexico.
How it works
We're committed to making your time in San Diego as quick, convenient, and successful as possible. Many of these steps can be coordinated remotely for international patients. With three Spanish-speaking physicians on our team, you'll feel informed, understood, and supported, no matter where you call home.
You'll meet with your dedicated SDFC care team either remotely or in person to review your goals, medical history, and options.
You'll complete pre-cycle testing, genetic screening, and treatment planning.
Depending on your needs, this could include sperm shipping or collection, egg donor selection, or an egg retrieval. Any fertilized eggs that mature into embryos can be genetically tested to increase your chances of a successful transfer.
When you're ready to use your embryos, they will be securely transported to a vetted partner clinic in Mexico. Shipments are handled by specialized reproductive tissue transport companies, and every step is carefully coordinated to ensure the safety of your embryos.
Your surrogate completes their embryo transfer, pregnancy, and delivery with local medical and legal support.
