Readers were offered the opportunity to ask the six panelists questions related to infertility. Dr. Hummel was asked, “How should couples prepare for IVF?”
“Preparing for your IVF treatment will reward you with your highest chance of success,” said Hummel. “Stress reduction is very important! Control what you can control (i.e. your stressful work schedule) and let go of what you have no control over (i.e. age).”
Dr. Hummel advises both men and women to reevaluate their diets, lifestyle choices, and attitudes. He also stresses the importance of getting support from your partner.

Over the course of 2008, these reviews have totaled hundreds of thousands of patient opinions about qualities like bedside manner, doctor-patient face time, degree of follow-up, and courtesy of office staff. Of the nation’s 720,000 active physicians, less than 5% were accorded this honor by their patients in 2008.
While physicians generally receive positive reviews from their patients, only a select few receive uniformly rave reviews across the board. About Dr. Kettel
Dr. Michael Kettel graduated with honors from the University of Arizona. He joined the San Diego Fertility Center in 1996 after serving as the Director of Infertility Services and as a member of the academic faculty at the University of California, San Diego for more than 6 years. He has received many academic and teaching awards and has published over 100 scientific papers, articles and book chapters on the treatment of endometriosis, uterine fibroids and ovulatory disorders. He has been one of Woodward/White, Inc’s “Best Doctors in America” since 1997 and one of the “Best Doctors in San Diego” since 2001, according to the San Diego County Medical Society. His recent interest lies in the area of preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) and new delivery systems for hormonal medication.

Dr. Rakoff has provided infertility services to the Scripps Clinic patients or over 30 years. With Dr. Rakoff now practicing at the San Diego Fertility Center the Scripps Clinic patients will be able to receive services at our Carmel Valley/ Del Mar location in addition to the Scripps Clinic Rancho Bernardo location. Scripps clinic patients will benefit from the San Diego Fertility IVF lab’s established excellent pregnancy success rates. This now makes San Diego Fertility Center the largest San Diego based IVF center. Patients enrolled as Scripps Clinic members, will now benefit from this new location and the already established embryology lab successes.

Clinical trials often times offer new treatments at very reduced fees. San Diego Fertility Center, the largest San Diego based center, receives frequent opportunities to participate in large multi-center FDA sponsored clinical trials; frequently these trials offer new forms of treatment and reduced fees.  San Diego County Medical Society and San Diego Magazine named Dr. William Hummel, a leading fertility treatment specialist, one of San Diego’s Physicians of Exceptional Excellence. He has received this honor four out of the last six years. San Diego Fertility Center is proud to be the only fertility center in the San Diego area selected in the field of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
San Diego County Medical Society member doctors were asked to whom they would recommend a family member who needed a specialist within their own field. Additionally, doctors were given the opportunity to “write in” another doctor’s name outside their particular specialty whom they felt should be recognized for their excellence. Out of 8,855 board-certified active physicians, approximately only 5.1% were selected.
The San Diego Medical Society is a non-profit organization founded in 1870 chartered by the California Medical Association and affiliated with the American Medical Association. The organization is involved in various activities including promoting the science and art of medicine and promoting quality care and well being of patients.
Board certified since 1990, Dr. Hummel is an experienced fertility doctor who has assisted thousands infertility patients achieve their dreams of having a child.
